History Of the Manaslu Expedition

Among the 14 peaks over 8000 meters, Manaslu stands out as one of the most technical climbs. As such, it is not an easy peak to conquer. Moreover, despite its comparatively low elevation, Manaslu has a high avalanche hazard. In fact, 32 people have died in avalanches on the mountain.

Manaslu is considered to be a sacred mountain. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word, "Manasa", which translates to "intellect or soul". The mountain is the eighth highest in the world and the eighth of the eight eight-thousanders.

Manaslu was first climbed in 1956 by the Japanese team led by T. Imanishi. This was one of the first 8,000-meter peaks climbed by an Asian nation. The team also included Sherpa Gyalzen Norbu, and Sherpa Yuko Maki.


Located in the Mansiri Himalayan sub-range of Nepal, Mount Manaslu is the eighth-highest mountain in the world. It is situated in the Gorkha district of Nepal. Its height is 8,163 meters above sea level. The mountain is known for its serrated wall of snow. It is also an important tourist attraction.

The region is home to a variety of wildlife including Himalayan Tahrs, and it has been designated as a conservation area. There are more than a thousand people living in the area. These people are mostly Indo-Aryan, with a few Tibetan and Tibetan Buddhists.

There are two major ethnic groups in the region, the Gurungs, and the Nubripa. The Gurungs practice Buddhism and Hinduism. The Nubripa have a Tibetan-Buddhist religion.

Best time to visit Manaslu

The Manaslu Tsum Valley is considered to be one of the most extreme regions of Nepal. It is home to friendly local people and various species of wildlife.

Manaslu Trek Permits Required

Whether you are a trekking enthusiast or a professional, permits are required for your Manaslu trek. Those who intend to trek in the Manaslu region require three permits: Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (MCAP), Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP).

To get permits, you must book with a registered trekking agency. Only government-registered trekking agencies can apply for permits. These trekking agencies must ensure that you will receive all the required permits when you arrive in Nepal.

ACAP is a special entry permit that is required by those who plan to enter the Annapurna Conservation Area. ACAP allows you to enter the conservation area for a specific number of days. It costs $30 USD for foreigners and $10 for trekkers from other countries.

Manaslu Trek Cost

Among the many treks that are popular in Nepal, Manaslu Circuit Trek is a very popular trek. This trek is known for its unique blend of culture and remoteness. It is a great trek for those who enjoy solitude. It is also a great trek for those who are looking for a less crowded experience.

If you are planning a Manaslu Circuit Trek, you will need to get special trekking permits. The cost of the permits depends on the season. For the first week, the permit will cost you about US$100. The cost of the permits is higher during the peak season. For those who are from SAARC countries, the cost is slightly lower.

Manaslu Circuit trek cost also depends on the meals and activities that you plan to do. For example, if you are going to trek in the higher regions, the cost will be higher. The higher regions usually offer traditional Nepali food.
