The Annapurna Circuit trek starts from Beshishar or above places after a day’s drive from Kathmandu. You start off by walking through paddy fields, then the grain belt, pastureland, forests, and finally come out above the tree line to cross Thorang La before trekking down to a completely different valley, the Kali Gandaki, the deepest valley in the world. The trek that circumnavigates the Annapurna massif, reaches up to the height of 5,416m in Thorang La Pass. You start walking from Besisahar as you make your way across Bahundanda, Bagarchap, Chame, Upper Pisang, Manang, and Yak Kharka to cross the Thorang La Pass, before reaching Muktinath.
The villages that you pass through during this trek are diverse – from Nepali to Tibetan, you see cultures change as the trek progresses. After completing the circuit you’ll descend to Ghorepani. After a good night’s sleep in Ghorepani, a morning ascent will take you to Poon Hill 3,200m, one of the most popular places in the entire Annapurna region. From Poon Hill, you can see the sun come up over the remarkable mountains – which are breathtaking in every way!
The next day, you’ll walk along a forest trail, followed by patches of maize and potato fields to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a popular Gurung settlement, whose many members have served or are now serving in the British Army. After staying overnight in Ghandruk you’ll walk towards the village of Phedi and catch a bus to Pokhara.
Annapurna round trekking is a long day of walking. The trekking route follows high passes and difficult trekking trails. So trekking in the months of March, April, and May in the spring season of Nepal is the best time to trek. Due to the dry season and clear sky, trekking along the route is easy and comfortable.
Similarly, trekking in the months of September, October, and November in the autumn season in Nepal is another best period to do the trek. However, trekking is possible in winter and rainy seasons also due to the heavy snow on the route in winter. It’s very difficult to find the trail and follow the right way.
In the rainy season, the routes get slippery and small streams might be flooded; So not recommended for trekking.
If you are physically fit and walk 6-7 hours a day, this trekking package is suitable for you. Walking in the Himalayan region is difficult and you might have altitude sickness. So; try to walk at least an hour daily to cross the Thorang La easily.
After your arrival in Kathmandu, our representatives at the airport will transfer you to your hotel and help you with check-in.
In the morning, our trekking crew will pick you up at the hotel and catch the transportation to Besisahar before transferring to a local jeep to Jagat where we stay overnight.
After breakfast, we drive about 3 hours to Chame which is the headquarters of Manang district, then we start walking towards Bhratang. The Himalayan views of Lamujng Himal, Annapurna will be impressive from the start.
The trail from Chame to Upper Pisang offers a panoramic view of the Lamjung, Annapurna, Tilicho, Chulu East, and Pisang peaks.
Today we leave the Sherpa village of Pisang, passing through forests of pine until we reach the village of Humre. From Humre we continue on to Manang.
Manang is our first acclimatization stop as we prepare for the next high-altitude section of the trek. We do full-day rest and walk-around day hikes.
The trail towards Tilicho base camp can be a bit tricky so we will need to walk along a small path to reach in base camp. The downward slope towards Base Camp is much easier.
Early morning, we start to go TILICHO LAKE – 4,919 visit to see the lake and the beautiful mountain ranges of Annapurna and the Gangapurna Himal. There is nowhere to stay here, so it will be a round trek and we will need to carry all our provisions for the day.
We walk to the base camp to Yak Kharka above the Khangsar village along an unmarked trail.
An hour's walk from Yak Kharka the trail passes through Ledar before climbing along the east bank of Jasang Khola and descending to Thorang Phedi.
continue uphill before we reach the famous Thorang La Pass (5,416m). The trail then drops downhill until we reach Muktinath. Muktinath is considered to be sacred by the followers of both Hinduism and Buddhism.
There is off road drive between Muktinath and Tatopani which is often busy and dusty. All part of the adventure! It takes about 7 to 8 hours to drive and relaxing a natural hot spring
Option: Muktinath to Tatopani has a big off-road where the jeeps and buses are available where can arrive in one day Muktinath to Tatopani (hot spring) about 7 to 8 hours driving.
Crossing the hanging bridge over the Kali Gandaki river, we reach the village of Shikha. From Shikha we walk for three more hours before we arrive in Ghorepani.

The mountains that can be observed from the hill are Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Tukuche, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, and Dhaulagiri. After taking in the beauty of Ghorepani we continue walking to Ulleri – Tikhedunga – Nayapul and drive to Pokhara overnight stay.

The spring season of March/April/May is the best for holidays in the Nepalese Himalayas. The sky and the weather are very clear and sunny in these months and the temperature is warmer. At heights below 3,500 meters, you can expect temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees during the daytime, although these will drop at night. Once above 3,500m, you should expect significant temperature drops at night and early morning, often as low as -15 degrees.
There is some rain in these months, but nothing severe and this really helps to bring out the natural colors in the varied flora and fauna, especially in the national flower of Nepal, the rhododendron.
This is the primary time for tourism in Nepal with trekkers and mountain climbers seen all across the country.
Nepal experiences its monsoon season during June, July, and August, and it can sometimes last until mid-September. Some treks are possible in mid-June before the rains really get heavy, however, visibility can be limited.
The rains bring other challenges and obstacles. Mountain flights are not so frequent, while landslides can block the roads. Trekking in mid-June is still possible but we advise against the classic treks such as Everest due to the risk of long delays at Lukla which could potentially lead to missing international flights. If this is the only season possible for you, then we recommend treks in drier parts of the country such as Upper Mustang or Upper Dolpo. We can also suggest other activities such as white water rafting or visiting the National Parks at Chitwan or Bardia.
With very similar conditions to spring, the autumn season begins in mid-September and runs to mid-December, and is also ideal for trekking. This is a long window of good visibility and so there are a wide variety of trekking options available.
This time of year is also known for its festivals, especially the Dashain festival/Tihar festival and Chhad festival. There are also long national holidays so many people return to their villages to see family, making rural Nepal even more vibrant than normal. There is little rain and the skies are mostly clear with warm weather. This does mean that the trekking routes can be quite crowded in the most popular areas so we advise booking early to avoid the disappointment of full tea houses.
The less popular trekking regions such as Manaslu, Tsum Valley, Upper Dolpo, Mustang, and Naar Phu are great alternatives for those who want to avoid the crowds at this busy time.
December to February is the winter season in Nepal. Trekking at this time is not ideal and we advise against anything that goes into thin air as snowfall is common and temperatures can be extremely low.
Trips that can be done in winter include trekking in the hills around Kathmandu, Ghorepani, Poon Hill, Nagarkot, Chitwan National Park, Bardia National Park, or experiencing a homestay in one of the local villages. The biggest positive of this time of year is the excellent sunsets and sunrises which can often be enjoyed in rural areas.
There is something for everyone at any time of year in Nepal and the team at Peace Nepal Treks is happy to advise the most suitable for your needs.
Below is a checklist of equipment that we advise people have with them when visiting Nepal. This is a guideline only and will depend on the type of trip you are undertaking.
While we always suggest bringing your most important equipment from home, it is possible to buy or rent equipment in Kathmandu where almost all products and major brands are available, often at cheaper rates than you might find at home.
This equipment listed is prepared by our long experiences in trekking. During the treks, our porters can carry approximately 20kg in total while we recommend that any trekker carries their own day-pack that weighs between 8-12kgs which would include a camera, snacks, and drinking water for easy access.

Excellent Annapurna Circuit Trek Peace Nepal organized an incredible trek which included the Annapurna Circuit and a visit to Annapurna Base Camp. Our guide Prem was great company and made the experience as good as it could have possibly been. Nir was extremely welcoming when we arrived in Kathmandu and lent us several items (sleeping bag, jacket, poles) for the trek which we didn’t have, which was very kind. A very memorable trip!...
