Gosaikunda Lake, which is located at 4,380m (14,370 ft.) in Gosaikunda National Park in Rasuwa district, Nepal’s Langtang region, is an alpine freshwater lake.

History of Gosaikunda Lake

Gosaikunda is said to be named after the epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata. These epics tell a story about Samundra Manthan, which is also referred to as Shiva’s adobe in Hindu mythology.

Water from Gosaikunda is holy, and Hindus from all over Nepal and India come to the area during Gangadashahara and Janai Purnima, two major Hindu holidays.

The Lake was formed when Lord Shiva drove his Trishul (Trident of Shiva) into the mountain to get water to cool his stinging throat after he had ingested poison. It is said that drinking water from Gosainkunda Lake protects visitors’ bodies against injury for their entire lives.

Best time for Gosaikunda Helicopter Tour

Gosaikunda Lake is located 4,380 meters above sea level. Because of the high altitude, weather change is common. In general, the Gosaikunda region is windy and dry. However, it may change rapidly in some instances.

So, it is important to choose the right time for a helicopter flight. When planning our trip to Gosaikunda, we wanted to avoid foggy and wet weather since either would distort the views and make the helicopter journey pointless.

The Gosaikunda Helicopter Tour is best visited in the fall and spring seasons.

Spring (March-May) Season

The best time of year to see natural beauty is in the spring. The weather is usually pleasant and you will see lots of colorful rhododendrons blooming on the mountain paths. The weather is perfect, with no clouds in sight and excellent mountain views. The temperature is neither too hot nor too cold.

Summer/Monsoon (June-August) Season

The summers are rainy, and the water levels of rivers and streams will rise above. Flight schedules are also delayed since to heavy rainfall. On a clear day, the vistas are stunning; you’ll get a unique view of Gosaikunda Lake from up high.

Autumn (September-November) Season

Another lovely period is the Autumn season, which runs from September to November. The Gosaikunda trail, which is full of trekkers and pilgrims during this time, allows you to see the mountain vistas clearly. During this period, the bright blue skies provide breathtaking views of the mountain peaks from the chopper.

Winter (December-February) Season

The weather is bitterly cold around Gosaikunda Lake in the winter. Temperatures drop below freezing, and heavy snowfall occurs, possibly blocking access to the lake. A Gosaikunda Helicopter Tour landing is still feasible during this season, although the frozen Gosaikunda Lake from above appears even more beautiful and intriguing.
