Why Visit Mount Kailash Tour?

Mount Kailash, revered by multiple religions, is not just a mountain but a significant spiritual symbol. For Hindus, it is the abode of Lord Shiva, a place of immense spiritual power and reverence. Buddhists regard it as the representation of Mount Meru, the axis mundi of the universe. Jains believe it is where their first Tirthankara, Rishabhadeva, attained Nirvana, and Bonpos consider it the spiritual center of their ancient religion. The journey to Mount Kailash is more than a physical trek; it is a path to spiritual enlightenment and personal transformation.

The History and Meaning of Kailash Kora

The Kailash Kora, a sacred 52-kilometer circumambulation of Mount Kailash, is a ritual that has been performed by pilgrims for thousands of years. The Kora is believed to absolve sins and bring about spiritual purification and enlightenment. Pilgrims from various faiths undertake this journey to seek blessings and attain spiritual merits. The Kora involves crossing the challenging Dolma La Pass at an elevation of 5,630 meters, which symbolizes the passage from life to death and rebirth, making it a deeply symbolic and transformative experience.

Duration and Itinerary of the Kailash Kora

The entire Mount Kailash tour is designed to be a 10-day program. Here's a detailed itinerary:

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to the Tibet border, entering the mystical landscape of Tibet.

Day 5: Start the Kora from Darchen, reaching Dirapuk Monastery, covering approximately 20 kilometers.
Day 6: The most challenging part of the Kora, crossing Dolma La Pass and descending to Zuthulpuk Monastery, about 22 kilometers.
Day 7: Complete the Kora by trekking back to Darchen, a distance of around 10 kilometers.
Day 8: Begin the return journey to the Tibet border.
Day 9: Cross the border back into Nepal.
Day 10: Drive back to Kathmandu, concluding the spiritual adventure.

Difficulty Level for Beginners

The Kailash Kora is known for its physical and mental challenges, particularly due to the high-altitude environment and rugged terrain. Beginners should be prepared for intense physical exertion, and it is advisable to engage in a fitness regimen well in advance of the trip. Acclimatization days are included in the itinerary to help participants adjust to the altitude and reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

Spiritual Significance

For religious pilgrims, the Kailash Kora is a journey of immense spiritual importance. It provides an opportunity for deep reflection, meditation, and a closer connection to the divine. Completing the Kora is seen as a sacred duty and a way to attain spiritual merit, making it a profound pilgrimage for devotees from around the world.
