Chitwan National Park

OVERVIEW

The Chitwan National Park was previously known as the Royal Chitwan National Park before monarchy was abolished from Nepal. The park was the royal hunting grounds until then and even now big games in the park are hunted by poachers although the Government of Nepal has declared the park as a conservation area and a protected region. The Chitwan National Park was declared as a World Heritage Site in 1984.

The Chitwan National Park is home to the nearly-extinct Royal Bengal Tigers, the one-horned rhinoceros, Gangetic Dolphins, Wild Elephants, Gharials (a species of crocodiles) and many other animals and birds.
What’s There:
Animals: 43 species of mammals including the One Horned Rhinoceros, Bengal Tiger, Leopards, Fishing Cat, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cat, Marbled Cat, Otters, Jackals, Sloth Bears, Mongoose, Hyenas, Elephants, Deers, Monkeys and Indian Pangolins to name a few.

Birds: 543 species of birds including the Black Chinned Yuhina, Gould’s Sunbird, Blossom-Headed Parakeet, Slaty-Breasted Rail, Egrets, Bitterns, Storks, Kingfisher, Spotted Eagle, Peafowl, Jungle Fowl, Brahminy Ducks and Goosanders to name a few.

When to visit:

Fall (October to November) and Spring (February to April) are the best seasons to visit the Chitwan National Park.
