 TRPAP - Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Programme

Our Programme Area

 
TRAP represents a very important pilot programmed, aimed at achieving the single key strategic aim of the 10th plan of his Majesty's Government of Nepal of poverty reduction, TRAAP is implemented by Ministry of Culture, Tourism and civil Aviation with technical and financial assistance from UNDP, DEID and SNV / Nepal. TRAP aims to reach out to some of Nepal's poorest rural, areas by developing promoting and marketing rural Tourism Being community based tourism programmed, it uses tourism as a vehicle to reduce poverty.

The Programme has been designed to contribute to the poverty alleviation objective of the government through review and formulation of policy and strategic planning for sustainable tourism development that is pro-poor, pro-environment, pro-rural communities and pro-women. To achieve this goal, the programme has set 3 objectives:

To demonstrate sustainable tourism development models for policy feedback
To develop institutional mechanisms for the sustenance of tourism development in Nepal
To support the government to review and formulate sustainable tourism development policies and strategies and integrate them with wider conservation objectives.
