During April each year the Ghode Jatra or horse festival re-enacts a legendary tale in which the people of Kathmandu buried a demon beneath the Tundikhel Showgrounds. Legend has it that he may rise again and cause evil in the world if he is trampled upon by horses every year.
The victory is celebrated every Spring in the Kathmandu Valley with palaquin processions and a grand display of show jumping, motorcyling feats and gymnastics. Thousands of people, together with Kumari the living goddess and the good and the great form the jatra audience.
