Everest Base Camp
/ Gokyo Lake Trekking 14 Days |
 Our
trek starts from Lukla, following up the Dudh
Koshi river valley towards Namche, and other main
villages of Khumbu, Thame & Khumjung.
After Khumjung Valley we branch off from the main
busy trail towards the sleepy village of Phortse
Tenga and finally reaching to our ultimate destination
at Gokyo. Gokyo, a one time yak pasture is blessed
with two beautiful high lakes, with a majestic
view of Cho Oyu and other 8000 metres peaks of
the region.
We climb Kala Pattar (the ‘Black Rock’)
or the Gokyo Ri at Gokyo, to view the Western
shoulder of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and far
away Makalu. We continue on towards the main Everest
trail at Thyangboche, a famous monastery.
Our return journey is made via Namche Bazaar and
finally to Lukla to conclude this high journey,
with a great experience of a lifetime.

Day:
01 Arriving into Kathmandu
Namaste and welcome to Nepal, You'll be met and assisted
at the airport by our local representatives who will
arrange your transfer and check in to your hotel.
Day: 02 Kathmandu and Valley
In the morning we explore Kathmandu on an organized
sightseeing tour visiting Bodhnath Stupa & Swoyam, bhu
Nath Stupa. Here we may observe Buddhist monks in prayer
in the monasteries surrounding the Stupa. where we can
visit the surrounding monasteries and perhaps watch
the monks as they chant their daily mantras. In addition,
we visit Pashupatinath, the most famous Hindu temple
in the country, located on the banks of the holy Bagmati
River. Here we will see Hindu holymen (or Sadhus), pilgrims
bathing and, occasionally, funeral pyres burning on
the ghats. In the evening, you will be supplied with
your trek packs and final departure details for tomorrow.
Day: 03 Early morning flight
to Lukla and Trek to Phakding. And O/N Fakding. (2652m)
3 hr
In the early morning we take the spectacular flight
from kathmandu to Lukla (2827m), The flight itself is
awe-inspiring as we fly parallel to the Himalayan giants
bordering nepal and Tibetan China. Flight time is about
40 minutes to the airstrip build by Sir Edmund Hillary
and the Sheraps in the mid – 1960s. After landing
we will have time to explore the village. And after
a hearty second breakfast, we begin the trek by descending
towards the Dudh Kosi River, where we join the main
trail to Namche Bazaar, just above Chaunrikharka (2713m).
The walking is easy and after passing through the small
village of Ghat (2550m), it is a short walk to Phakding.
Day: 04 Fakding to Namche Bazar.
O/N Namche Bazar. (3446m) 5 hr
Today the trail ascends gradually towards Jorsalle, crossing
suspension brides over the Dudhkoshi River before arriving
at the entrance gate to Sagarmatha the National park.
After crossing three more brides the trail ascends through
alpine and rhododendron forests where we should see
local deer, birds and other wildlife as we follow the
trail for around 4 hours to reach Namchhe Bazaar. The
highest Sherpa market in the world.
Day: 05 Rest days. O/N Namche
Bazar. (3446m)
We remain at Namche for a second night to allow for
proper acclimatization to the altitude. Namche is a
prosperous village situated in a large, protected hollow.
. It gained its importance during the period when Tibetan
salt was traded for the lowland grains of Nepal. Today
a limited amount of trade exists at Namche and Tibetans
are often seen in the village trading rugs and Chinese-made
goods, clothing, salt and dried meat.
It is recommended that you take the opportunity to see
both the sunrise and sunset views from the national
park above the village.
After breakfast a number of options exist:
After breakfast a number of options exist: trek towards
Thame (3,810 m) along the beautiful Bhote Khola River
valley, or visit the National Park Headquarters to see
the interesting displays of Sherpa lifestyle and culture,
mountaineering in the park, flora and fauna. Others
may prefer to relax in the friendly atmosphere around
the village.
Day: 06 Namche Bazar to Dole.
O/N Dole. (4084m) 5hr
The trail leads down through rhododendron scrub forest
towards an impregnable looking rock wall on the north
side of the valley. A 'giant's causeway' of granite
steps forms an incredible route up this face before
the trail emerges on high grazing ground. One hour further
down the trail, an attractive chorten sets off wonderful
views across the valley to Ama Dablam, rising above
the rooftops of Thyangboche. The trail then descends
steeply towards the Dudh Kosi, leaves the main route
through to Phortse and Pangboche, and instead turns
north towards Gokyo. There is a good lunch spot beneath
a canopy of birch and rhododendron just after the turn
off. A stiff but attractive climb leads to Dole, which
lies just above the tree-line .Time: 6 hours.
Day: 07 Dole to Machhermo. O/N
Machhermo. (4465m) 4hr
From Dole the trail climbs via Lhabarma at 4220m to
Luza at 4360m. The path is steep in most places as it
climbs through scrub to Lhabarma. The track continues
to climb along the side of the valley high above the
river, crossing sandy spurs to reach machermao at 4410m
It was in Machermo in 1974 that one of the first Yeti
sightings was reported in Khumbu. There are good mountain
views from Machhermo and we'll rest here for the night.
Day: 08 Machhermo to Gokyo. O/N
Gokyo. (4791m) 5hr
Beyond machhermo the trail climbs a ridge for an excellent
view both down the valley to Kantega and up towards
Cho- Oyu (8153m). Beyond the ridge the valley widens
as the trail passes through Pangram at 4390m. We descend
to the river banik before beginning the sleep climb
up to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier.
Afterwards the trail levels out as it follows the valley
past a second lake, known as Longponga at 4690m. Then
finally up a boulder – strewn path to reach Gokyo
at 4,750m. We'll stay at Gokyo tonight.
Day 09: Gokyo to Gokyo Ri (5483m)
and back to Gokyo. O/N Gokyo.
It is well worth the effort to make the 3-hour ascent
to the summit of Gokyo Ri, a small hill which rises
immediately to the north of the lake. The view from
the top is stunning, with the west ridge and south-west
face of Everest beautifully framed by Changtse and Nuptse,
Makalu rising further to the east, and in the foreground
to the north the chaotic moraines of the Ngozumpa Glacier
leading to the snowy bastion of Cho Oyu.
Day 10: Gokyo to Machhermo. O/N
Machhermo. (4465m) 5hr
Day 11: Machhermo to Namche Bazar.
O/N Namche Bazar. (3446m) 5hr
Namche Bazar to Lukla. O/N Lukla. (2827m) 5 to 6hr
Day 12: Lukla- Kathmandu.
An early morning flight takes us back to Kathmandu,
and gives us a last view of the mountains we have just
spent two weeks exploring.
Day 13 At Leisure in Kathmandu. O/N Kathmandu Hotel.
An opportunity to relax and reflect on your adventures
and to complete any sightseeing and last minute shopping.
We will also organize an optional flight over Mt. Everest
($130 US) or an optional biking trip around the Kathmandu
Valley. Later this evening we'll all meet up for a group
farewell Nepali food with typical Nepali dance.
Day 14: Departure with warm Good Bye.
Today is free to relax until departure or to commence
any additional trips or activities you may have booked.
If departing, you will transferred to the International
Airport in time for your return flight home.
